About the Society:
The Hong Kong Society of Inborn Errors of Metabolism (HKSIEM) was founded in 2004 to foster the study and management of inherited metabolic disorders in Hong Kong, bringing together clinicians, pathologists, and geneticists together. It plays a crucial role in advancing paediatric inherited metabolic medicine (PIMM). The society also supports research, clinical meetings and networking to improve patient outcomes for those with these rare diseases.
The objectives of the HKSIEM are:
- promote the study and management of IEM
- establish a local IEM registry
- help the dissemination and application of knowledge concerning IEM
- study the bioethical impacts of scientific and technological issues on IEM, including orphan drug legislation
- collaborate with patient support groups
