  • About the Society:

Founded in 2006, the main objectives are to:

    – Promote awareness of inherited metabolic diseases and related local and international diagnostic possibilities.
    – Disseminate knowledge on inborn errors of metabolism.
    – Establish a network of pediatricians to enhance the quality of care for patients with metabolic diseases throughout Croatia.
    – Foster collaboration among specialists from various disciplines to improve patient management.
    – Organize educational programs, workshops, and conferences for healthcare professionals.
    – Collaborate closely with patient associations in Croatia and internationally.
    – Maintain ongoing communication with the Croatian Health Insurance Fund and the Ministry of Health to advocate for improved healthcare measures and patient care.
    – Engage with the Croatian Alliance for Rare Diseases to support policies and initiatives for rare disease management.

The Section currently has around 30 active members, including pediatricians, specialists from related fields, medical biochemists, geneticists, psychologists, and nurses.

In addition to being part of the Croatian Pediatric Society, the Section collaborates closely with other professional pediatric societies, including the Croatian Pediatric Neurology Society, the Croatian Society for Pediatric Nephrology, the Croatian Society for Atherosclerosis, the Croatian Society for Dietetics, etc. It also maintains connections with international organizations, such as the European Galactosemia Network, the International Working Group on Neurotransmitter Related Disorders (iNTD), the European Network and Registry for Homocystinurias and Methylation Defects, and the Recordati Rare Disease Foundation, among others.

All activities of the Section are conducted in close cooperation with the Croatian National Reference Center for Pediatric Genetics, Metabolic Diseases, and Newborn Screening, which is part of the MetabERN Network.
