Additional Information
The State NBS program was expanded last year and includes 6 disorders – PKU, CH, CF, galactosemia, biotinidase deficiency, CAH. For those disorders there are state programs with basic medical services. State PKU program has very limited services for PKU patients. There are false negative cases and patients with late diagnosed PKU in the county.
No other metabolic disorders are supported by the government. In Georgia, GSIEM is the only organization which tries to take care of other metabolic patients. GSIEM is actively collaborating with metabolic experts to discuss and manage IEM cases and get any possible assistance to develope metabolic medicine.
GSEIM started organizing trainings locally for neonatologists, NICU and ICU specialists, neurologists, translating guidelines and important literature sources about IEMs in Georgia and supporting the patients to get connected.
