Hyperammonaemia

Hyperammonaemia

About this learning

Hyperammonaemia is associated with a number of inherited disorders. If not recognised and treated urgently it causes severe and permanent damage to the central nervous system. In order to provide optimal care for patients, it is essential that health professionals involved in the diagnosis and management of inherited metabolic disease have a thorough understanding of this condition. The purpose of this e-learning programme is to ensure an appropriate level of knowledge for those training and working in this area of medicine.

This is an online learning module which aims to provide physicians world-wide with clinically useful and most up-to-date information concerning current knowledge and management strategies of hyperammonaemia. This project is designed for pediatricians, metabolic physicians, neurologists, other interested physicians, and allied health professionals who manage, treat, or refer patients in this field.

Practitioners will benefit from our interactive e-learning module and be able to test their knowledge, read case studies, and enhance their overall understanding of hyperammonaemia. The experience will include:

  • Working through clinical scenarios to make the experience interactive; questions can only be satisfactorily answered by reference to the literature or text books to obtain all the information required.
  • Downloadable .pdf written halfway between the formality of a book and the informality of a seminar to make them user-friendly and accessible.

The learner should expect that it takes up to four hours to complete the hyperammonaemia module.

We are also grateful to Daisy Rymen (Metabolic Fellow at University Children's Hospital, Zurich) who provided feedback from a reader's perspective and who phrased the interactive questions.
